  1. There used to be real tangible differences, but it's become far less well defined.  You could use a few rules to figure which was which:

    1. Barbies have few if any joints

    2. Barbies are all girls

    3. Barbies have "real" hair

These days, none of these are entirely true.  And action figure lines often exhibit some of these as well.  And then you have lines that sort of straddle the line between the two, such as Cy Girls.  The only real indicator of which is which, is to see which gender it appeals more to.

  2. There are a lot of differences ill just name 2. Barbie is a girl and is built to look pretty and nice. But action figures are probably wrestlers or like a superhero or something so they dont look the same. Barbies are also movable in different directions then a action figure. An action figure can move most of its joints while barbies move their heads arms and legs

  3. just what people have labeled them to be....

  4. yes there is a big diference.....................

                                 ................ one has shorter hair.

    an egg.

  5. they are different,

barbie can only move her arms and legs in one direction, at the hip and shoulders,

action figures can move at the elbows and knees as-well.

this is one major difference between the two.

    *edit*

although in some places action figures are quoted as being "boys dolls" so you and your friend are both correct i suppose :-)
