I want to purchase a civic (first car) and theres alot of different models floating about. I know the SI = sport injection and its 'faster' than the other types but it depends on the year. Whats is a DX and how does it differ from the SI?

  1. as previously stated dx is a peice o c**p. ex lx are the regular civics you see running around and the Si is the **** not common in older models but everyone has the newer Si. the Si always has the biggest motor.

the best one in my opinion would be the 99-00 Si. comes with a b16a2 motor. VTEC. moon roof power everything. alarm. s**y rims. spoiler. i used to have one and i will be getting another soon. im in love with them and know everything you could want to know about them.

  2. With Honda DX, LX and EX differentiate options. DX is pretty basic, LX is better equipped and EX still even more options. NADA or KBB.com will give some better insight as to the different options packages. DX, LX and EX will all have the same power plant. Your right SI is the "Sport" model.

  3. The DX is typically the base model for all Honda's. It will not come with power door lock or windows. The interior may be at an entry level and depending on the year, it may not come with a radio, speakers or antenna.

  4. Well for most Honda's that have DX/LX/EX/SI this is how it usually works out:

DX: Bare minimum car. Usually no power windows, no CD, no power door locks, no ABS, no A/C. no special trim or rims, and manual transmission only.

LX: "Average" equipment. Usually means it has trims, CD player, A/C, wheel covers, power everything, & usually more power than a DX.

EX: 6 disc CD changer, allow rims, special trim, spoiler, 4 wheel disc brakes, power everything, sunroof, shift k**b, option for Leather.

SI: high performance engine, Manual transmission only, sport design/tune, special seats, spoiler, sport alloys, 6 Disc CD changer, etc

On some different models of Honda the trim levels (DX, LX, EX, SI) have more or less than what i listed, but this is a pretty close list.  DX is the bare minimum car, usually that's the kinda car companies wanna use for something like fleet cars. The Si is usually the top of line, sport model.

I'd say most people go for a LX or an EX. Those that want a little more performance, will go for an Si.

  5. Jason C is close but there was one inaccuracy- the EX is basically a higher equipped LX but no EX and LX have the same engines - except for the models in the current lineup. Tech junkie is righ about the engine differences also and to add to his info, before the 45 mpg HX Civic coupe, there was the 45 mpg Civic VX hatchback. Oddly, Honda discontinued th HX when they brought out the Hybrid- which actually gets less mpg than the HX.

  6. If you are buying a new car, visit Honda website and look for specifications for every model you are interested in. If you are interested in buying a used car, check websites, such as Edmunds or Cars.Com, Car and Driver, or Motor Trend. They have editors' reviews for current and past models. These reviews also tell you about the various trims. You may find consumers' reviews, too. These can be helpful if you are interested in buying a particular model.

  7. dx/lx - no vtech 1.5 liter engine. could have manuel windows, and manuel locks.

hx - if you can find one  45plus mpg.

ex - single cam 1.6-1.7 liter vtech engine, power windows, power locks

si - could be same as above, or on 99-01 dohc b16 vtech engine

03-up si 2.0 k series engine, dohc with timing chain. buy this one.

  8. DX is the most basic trim of a Honda Civic that you can buy. Manual windows, slowest, under powered engine, etc.

Si is the best Civic you could get in terms of power.
