Difference between Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite?

I am Buying a New Nintendo DS today, but a Week ago when I Went to the Mall, There was Nintendo DS And there was Nintendo DS lite.

does the 'lite' just mean the screen lights up? and does it cost more?
