  1. Both self- and cross-fertilization are forms of sexual reproduction and involve the fusion of gametes.  Self-fertilization is when those two gametes come from the same individual while cross-fertilization is when they come from two different individuals.

    While plants more commonly self-fertilize, many hermaphrodite animals can as well.


  2. Self fertilisation is where pollen from an anther lands on the stigma of the SAME flower and grows pollen tubes to fertilise the ovules.

    Cross fertilisation is where pollen from an anther lands on the stigma of a DIFFERENT flower and grows pollen tubes to fertilise the ovules
