  1. He's right.  No more complicated then that.


  2. US record in NTSC, European ones in PAL.  Because of tax laws, European models are less likely to have DV-IN enabled.

  3. another difference is the US battery charger is for 120 volt mains, and the Euro charger has a different plug and 240 volt.  Each model is designed to be sold in a particular markets, so the warrantee and service is limited or non-existant when out-of-market.

    The current trend in camcorder design is multi-national. The CCDs are oversized and interpolated to produce the pixels recorded on tape, PAL and NTSC use the same tape and data rate, codecs usually support both systems,  and chargers use switchmode to be independent of mains voltage with swappable line cords.
