Question:

Difference between USN NFO and USMC NFO?

I know that the two services use some different aircraft, but are there any major differences between the two (other than the fact that one Naval Flight Officer is in the Navy and the other is a Marine)? Also, is it likely for the USMC NFO to serve aboard an aircraft carrier? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated even if it doesn't really answer my questions. Thanks in advance!!!

  1. The only 'real' difference would be their rank, such as a Marine would be a Major whereas a Naval officer would be a Lt. Commander (this is just an example).  And yes Marine officers can be temporarily assigned to aircraft carriers but typically they would be on smaller carriers such as support carriers

  2. there is really no difference they both get trained by the same people they fly the same planes (the us marines use the harrier though) and yes there are marines on carriers

  3. They attend the same training, Navy pilots fly on all Navy platforms. Marine pilots fly on Amphibs and Aircraft Carriers - they fly Harriers AND F/A-18 Hornets and some choppers too.
