Tides are waves, low frequency long wave length waves that move across the surface of the earth in response to gravitational forces (or more precisely the difference in gravitatioal forces across the planetary diameter).  Regular waves are higher frequency shorter wave length processes driven by wind.  Tsunamis (often miss named tidal waves) are high frequency pulse waves created by a localized displacement of large quanties of sea water (essentially the dame thing that creates ripples when you throw a rock into a pond, only on a much larger scale.

  3. A tide is the effect the moon has on the sea. It drags the water by the effect of gravity. (See how connected we are to the rest of the universe!) A wave is just one of the ripples of the tide coming in or going out.

  4. the tide is controled by the gravitational pull between earth and moon while the waves are independent and just move to and fro due to wind.
