  1. The host/hostess greets

Waiter/waitress/server   serves, takes order (trying to be pc)

    I think I would rather be a greeter/host

  2. Host greets and seats the customers.  The waiter takes the tables order and brings out the food.  It depends when deciding which one is the best depending upon how much the base pay is for each position.  A waiter has the opportunity to make tips whereas a host doesn't.

  3. The host/hostess is the greeter and the person who takes you to your table. The Server (waiter/waitress) is the person who takes your order and brings it to you

I would think you would start off as a host and then move to server.....I also think it's 'better' to be a server because that's when you would get tips :)
