My son has asperger's which is a high fuctioning version of autism. He does well in normal school for the most part. However, he has an assignment to give a speech. Can anyone tell me the best way to explain to him the difference between making a speech and telling a story?

  1. It all depends on where you are sitting.

To a Speaker, A story is something that he wants to tell, but a speech is something that his audience wants to hear.

To the Audience, A Speech is something they have gathered to hear, but a story is an example of something that may be more impromptu, and not needing to be heard.

Also a story could be more entertaining, while a speech may be more rehearsed or educating.

    A joke is a story.

A research report may become a speech.

Good luck.  sometime there is a fine line especially in Politics!
