  1. First off, plasma tvs cannot be refilled so please don't listen to that.

The main differences in the two (current) types of flat screen TVs (LCD and Plasma) are:

LCD is better for video games because plasma tend to suffer from burn-in. The newer plasmas claim to be game friendly but the manufacturers still don't warranty against burn-in (also called image retention) so I would still stay away from video games with a plasma.

Plasma TVs have better contrast ratios (blacker blacks where LCD looks gray) and, in most cases, better color rendering. LCDs are brighter so if you don't have shades, you may want to go with LCD. They last about the same (both types are rated in the 60,000 hr range - a bit beter than your old CRT TV). LCDs have motion blur problems but they are getting better with the newer sets. Plasma TVs also do a much better job with non-HD sources. Plasmas use more electricity and they weigh more, if you care.

I always suggest plasma to my friends (especially those that like to watch sports) as long as they aren't going to play video games on them. To me, the better picture is more important than anything else. Of course, you may feel differently. Either way you go is fine and you'll love HDTV.

  2. Flat screen Tvs is a very vague term, as the old big TVS had Flatron written on them as the screen was flat as opoosed to concave.

U can get LCD flat panel screens or Plasma TV screens. Both are flat panel and slghtly different technologies, the newer expensive TVs are plasma screens as they have higher contrast rates, as support higher resolutions as well as richer colours. LCD are commonly used for PC monitors.

  3. flat screen i'm assuming you mean lcd - in which case it's a liquid crystal display, plasma it just what it sounds like, the tv has tube of plasma for creating the picture that after excessive time will need to be refilled or replaced. if you're looking to purchase either of them go with the lcd - better picture, longer life

  4. Some are LCD and some are Plasma. Matter of fact some flatscreens are smaller versions of projection tvs. They say the best to buy is LCD, they have the lowest turn over or problems and repairs.
