  1. Atom:-

(a)An atom is a natural particle

(b)Atom is not capable of independent existence

(c)Atom dies not take part in ionic reactions

(d)Atom takes part in molecular reactions

    Ion:-

(a)Ion is a simple or group of atoms carrying an electrical

    charge

(b)Ion is capable of independent existence

(c)Ion takes part on ionic reaction

(d)Ion does not take part in molecular reactions

  2. An ion is an atom.  However, ions have a specific charge, which is to say that they have different numbers of protons and electrons.  An atom with no charge (neutral) has the same # of p as of e.

  3. An ion has charge while an atom doesn't have. Only ions can form ionic bonds not a neutral atom.

  4. Ions are atoms with the same number of protons but with a different number of electrons! A positive ion is and atom that gave off electrons and a negative ion is an atom that accepted extra electrons!

  5. ions have a specific charge, such as +1, or -2.
