Difference between local area conservation dams and multipurpose river valley projects..?

frd's plz help its 4 my project work in geograpghy.. and some gud sites which r useful 4 my project.wat i meant is their difference in features, uses their positive and negative aspects ... can u help me? plz........................................

local area are mostly small scaled projects, made it easy to use for agriculture and irrigation. Mostly there is no danger of flooding.the greater projects are in principal for making electric power and regulate the stream down words, by heavy rain it is always risky
