  1. Dog flea compounds can never be used on cats. They are toxic to felines and can kill or blind the cat.

It is not a matter of dose, it is the content of the flea killer that is toxic to cats.

Talk to your Vet and get "Revolution" or "Frontline for cats" or "Cat Advantage" and put it behind the cat's neck once a month. Unless you want a sick or dead cat DON'T use dog flea products to save a few dollars.

Thank you for asking here on YA!

  2. I worked at a pet store for 5 years.  Most PetSmarts have a vet in them now.  But I will agree that you must use a specific flea med for cats and one for a dog.  Dog flea meds contain different ingredients that would hurt a cat.  If you don't choose to get a flea med from the vet choose the bio-spot or sentry brand for the dog.  For the cat use one by bio-spot, zodiac, or purrscriptions(I use this one and it works great for my 5yr old cat).

  3. It depends on the product you're using.  Something like Revolution is the exact same product just in different sized tubes.  Some other products contain different ingredients that are unsafe, or even deadly, for cats.

The best thing to do is to contact your vet and find out if the flea products you have are safe for your cat.

  4. Depends on if you're talking about over the counter of from the vet. I recommend going to the vet and getting the flea treatment done because most over the counter treatments don't work! I have a momma cat and two kittens and we wasted more money doing Over the Counter than when we finally decided to do the vet!
