The former Lecce manager gives his opinion on the experience gained from Juventus in comparison to his previous stints, and commented on his plans for the
future.
Conte had been shortlisted as one of the possible candidates to fill in the vacant managerial position in 2009 after Claudio Ranieri had been dismissed by the club. The
Turin outfit opted to sign Ciro Ferrara and Conte looked for jobs elsewhere, finding employment at Atalanta in the summer of 2009.
However, Ciro Ferrara failed to impress for the Bianconeri and was consequently fired by the Juve higher ups. Conte continued to impress, after leading Siena to promotion
from the Serie B for 2011-12 season. His success did not go unnoticed as Juventus came knocking once again, this time hiring the former player as the head coach of the Old Lady.
Conte had been described as a rigid manager, who was not open to new ideas, as he mainly used a 4-4-2/4-2-4 formation in previous tenures. However, he has changed his mentality
and has deployed various formations for the Old Lady.
Conte confessed in his interview with La Repubblica that he could not have imagined such a big change in his professional approach and commented:
“You improve on a professional level each year. For example, I would have never thought that I would change my system of play. One season at a big club is worth five or
six at a small one. That’s why I today feel a lot more mature.”
The former Bari manager never hid the fact that he wanted an opportunity to coach his former employers. Despite being given the opportunity Conte has stated that he would
also like to manage elsewhere, and commented:
“Milan or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567? I’m a professional and I have demonstrated that. Whoever knows of the hatred between Lecce and Bari will understand that. I am Leccese, but I totally threw
myself in at Bari. A move abroad? I’ve been studying English for years, but I’m finding it hard to get to grips with. Sooner or later, I’d like an experience somewhere else.”
Juventus would try their hardest that Conte stays for a long time and ensure that Juve reach the next level.
