Difference between mardi gras and carnival?

other than the countries they are celebrated in, are there any other differences in the way they are celebrated, type of decor used, etc?

there are a lot of differences.. these are some that pop into my head.

Mardi Gras:

-purples, yellow and green are the main colors for it

- a lot of masks are worn

- a lot of beads are worn

- theres certian music for the actual festival i think and foods

Carnival:

- a lot of random foods and cotton candy, popcorn, candy and stuff like that

- a lot of booths with games in it

- there arent really any colors for a "carnival" unless its like the cotton candy color or something

- clowns and face painting

.. some things might be the same, maybe some of the games, but they are pretty different too. this is just what i think  :)
