Difference between saddle pad & saddle blankets?

As far as I know a saddle pad goes under saddle and shaped to the saddle. A saddle blanket is the rectangular pad as in dressage saddle blanket.

I think there is alot of confusion about this... even people who sell them call the different things.. but from what i can tell...

a saddle pad is more what enlish riders use... like this -

but i really dont think it matters... its just a term people use in different places... no matter where you are... people will know what you mean which ever you use..
