  1. Let us all remember that the purpose of foreign policy is to get other countries to do what benefits your country.  There is nothing altruistic about it despite what some people want to think.  The US wants access to cheap oil from the middle east to support its economy because increased fuel costs equal inflation which equals a negative impact on their economy.  The EU wants access to cheap oil from the middle east to support their economies because increased fuel costs equal inflation which equals a negative impact on their economies.  A secondary consideration for both is promoting the growth and profitability of their domestic corporations.  There is a lot of money to be made from controlling the access to, processing, transportation and sales of the resources in the Middle East.  Companies in both the EU and US have vested interests in both the stability and instability of the Middle East.  If you sell weapons you like instability.  If you are in construction you like instability.  If you are providing infrastructure related services you like stability.  If you rely on the shipment of goods from the Middle East you like stability.  So, the question is what are the differences between the EU and US foreign policies?  The simple answer is they are the same except for who that policies benefits.  All other issues and considerations are window dressing promoted by an easily manipulated press.

  2. One is more sympathetic towards Israel than the other.

  3. Israel heavily lobbies the US Congress ($$$), so we tend to blindly support Israel (more than the EU does) even when they act outrageuosly.

  4. The foreign policies, while seen on the outside as similar, are actually significantly different between the EU and the United States.  The primary difference is in peace negotiations.  Most EU members agree that Israel should abide by (strictly) to UN resolutions 232 and 338 regarding peace settlements and the current border disputes.  The United States however doesnt agree with this and takes a "neutral" stance that basically supports Israel.  In the past, the United States has definately and probably is still continued to be seen as Pro-Israeli as the EU members are considered less so, they are definately seen as more moderate.  However, this idea seems to be changing in recent years as the United States has begun to be more moderate in their stance towards the Arab-Israeli issue, not necessarily siding with Israel on all points.  Lastly, the defense issue is much different between the EU and USA.  The USA still views Israel as a strategic foothold in the middle east and it isnt able to afford to give up easily, while the EU does not seem to have a strategic need in this area.  The USA continues to supply Israel with billions of dollars of weapons annually (as part of their trade agreements) while the total EU is much much less than this.  Together, these factors combine to form quite a distinct difference between the EU and US foreign policies as it pertains to the Israeli-Arab issue.

  5. the European Unions policy seems to be aimed at eventually absorbing the Palestinian territories if not Israel or the middle east all together.  Our great America of course only wants freedom , democracy and , liberty to reign in those poor regions. (Save Israel)

  6. The Pro-Israel lobby dictates American policy. Europe generally follows suit although occasionally paying lip service to the plight of the Palestinians.

  7. through media, the EU is always yelling for peace for both sides, while the states is always blaming the palestineans for blablabla.....the truth is, unlike the states, the EU has no influence on Israel which is also no advantage to them, while the states is directly concerned with israel's existence as its "2nd" state in the oil-rich, regionally overlooking the world,......so US embraces israel, EU doesn't care much.

  8. What's the difference?

    EU + USA = Israel

They all supports tiny ziony but with different level
