I have decided that I want this style of tire but I am not sure as to what the difference is between them.

  1. The Difference is weight and PSI !!

    Wire      @ 280grams 110 psi

    Folding @ 230grams 120psi

  2. One tire has a wire bead. That means it will retain its round shape. The other tire's bead is a synthetic fiber that is flexible. That allows the tire to be folded into a smaller package for storage. You can freely change between folded and wire-bead tires on a clincher type rim.

The basic difference is ease of storage. Go into a bike shop. You'll find the wire rim tires at their full size. The folding tires are in much smaller boxes. That makes it much more practical to carry a spare tire in addition to a spare tube.

Some people say that it's easier to remove and reinstall a folding tire when you get a flat on the road. I've never had a problem with either kind of tire.

My latest road bike came with folding tires. When I replaced the original tires, I bought another folding tire only because it was on a good sale.

    HTH

  3. The extra cost is for ease of storage really. Perfect if you're planning a long, long ride or something.

I would also recommend Specialized Armadillo tyres BTW.

    Why all the thumbs down???
