  1. There are several types of viral vaccines, but the most common are killed virus vaccines and live, attenuated virus vaccines.

Killed vaccines are just what they sound like.  These vaccines are composed of the same virus that causes infection, but it is killed, usually by chemicals (such as the injection form of the poliovirus vaccine).

Attenuated vaccines also contain the infectious virus, but in this case the viruses are still infectious, but are unable to cause disease because laboratory-introduced mutations make them weaker (an example is the chickenpox virus).  Attenuated virus vaccines provide much better immunity than killed vaccines because the body is responding to a real virus infection, just with a weakened virus.

  2. The virus is a very basic living creature that invades your body. (it is very simple and some scientist don't even consider it a living thing).  It is it's simplicity that makes it so hard to cure.  A vaccine is a bunch of viruses that are dead or weak.  This makes it easier for your body to kill them.  To fight the virus the body developed antibodies that will eat the dead viruses.  It is these antibodies that will then protect you from future infections of that particular virus.  Once the body has developed theese antibodies they will always be there so the virus will be killed befor you get the symptoms and illness.  It is not that simple to develope vaccines though or else aids would be cured.
