  1. Platforms based on the Intel® 945P Express Chipset, combined with the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor, deliver innovative features and new benefits for both home and business.

The Intel 945P Express Chipset delivers outstanding system performance through high-bandwidth interfaces such as dual-channel DDR2 memory, 1066/800 MHz system bus, PCI Express* x16 graphics port and PCI Express x1 I/O ports, next generation Serial ATA and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. In addition, the Intel 945P Express Chipset includes support for Intel® Active Management Technology, the next generation of remote client network management for business.

All of the basic circuitry and components required for a computer to function are onboard the motherboard or are connected with a cable. The most important component on a motherboard is the chipset. It often consists of two components or chips known as the Northbridge and Southbridge, though they may also be integrated into a single component. These chips determine, to an extent, the features and capabilities of the motherboard.

  2. Short answer: the chipset is a component attached to the motherboard.  The motherboard includes the chipset, the slots for various cards and RAM, attachments for drives, USB ports, software for the BIOS, etc.  In general, the chipset determines which CPU your motherboard is compatible with, but the motherboard has a whole lot more.

  3. if it is advertised as an Intel chipset, that is pretty much a fancy way of saying it is an Intel motherboard as apposed to an AMD motherboard.

this will affect the kind of processor it can take, either an Intel or an AMD processor. if you are not picky about your computer's workings, then the Intel chipset should work fine.

if you prefer AMD processors for one reason or another, ask about an AMD motherboard.

  4. A motherboard chip set controls the features and abilities of the motherboard.  If you understand which chipset a motherboard uses, you know a good deal about its potential features and abilities before ever reading themother board'ss specifications.
