  1. Maple is a harder wood and has a hard coating, it is more dry and brittle.

Ash, when it breaks you know it right away. Maple has been known to break inside and then not completely until then next hit which with the more brittle wood causes it to shatter.

  2.   yes i can

i don't think they make maple bats

  3. I don't know if you can tell by looking at them.  You would have to ask the salesperson in the store if they know which bats are Ash and which are maple.   The maple bats are dangerous and I have heard at least some minor league are considering banning maple bats.  Major league baseball needs to do it to before any more people are seriously injured.

  4. ash bats have a thicker grain to them and alot of times right on the bat it will say ash or maple

  5. ash bats have a visible grain even when painted over because they have texture. maple bats are very smooth

  6. Ash (and birch) is heavier than Maple, which is dryer and often has a tacky feel to it.
