  1. Solution - The particles are smaller than suspension and colloid wherein the diameter is 1X10^ -7cm.

Example: salt and water, sugar and water

    Characteristics:

    1. The particle of the dissolved material is very small

    2. evenly distributed

    3. cannot be filtered

    4. light can pass through

    5. do not settle

Suspension - particles are bigger which can be seen by our naked eye. You can identify one component to another, The size of the particle is 1X10^ -4cm

Example: rock and water, silt and water

    Characteristics:

    1. Can settle

    2. Can be filtered

    3. Unevenly distributed

Colloid - particles are not as big as suspension. Exhibits Tyndall Effect which is the scattering of light by the colloidal particles.

    Example: mayonnaise, emulsion

    Characteristics:

    1. 2 phases

    2. Cannot settle

    3. Cannot be filtered

    4. Unevenly distributed

    5. Tyndall effect

  2. Both are types of solutions, the only difference is the size of the particles. Suspensions are made up of large particles eg. sand, while colloids are smaller particles eg. tiny particles of soil.

    Hope this helps

  3. Did you leave out a comma between solution and suspension?...if so:

A true solution is a clear, homogenous dispersion of solute molecules/ions in a solvent...nothing will settle out.

A suspension has (usually) visible particles floating about in a fluid...if the particles are large enough, they will eventually settle out and/or can be filtered out.

A colloid (colloidal suspension) has extremely small,  invisable to the naked eye, particles dispersed throughout the medium...this is stable, nothing can settle or be filtered out.

  4. A solution suspension is a colloid.  A colloid consists of solute particles incompletely dissolved in a solvent, which means that the solute particles have conglomerated together and are suspended in the solvent.  A true solution has all its solutes dissolved completely in the solvent.  A colloid and a true solution are both mixtures.
