  1. mitosis occurs in the somatic cells (body cells) and maintain the diploid number of chromosomes and results in 2 cells.

    Meiosis occurs in the gametes (s*x cells), results in a haploid chromosome number, and produces 4 male gametes (sperm or pollen) or 2 female gametes (eggs).
