Differences between Transistors?

Question

I am looking for a BC547A but can only find the following:

BC547C

BC548B

BC549C &

BC550C

Will these do the same job?

or are they completely different components?

without looking up each spec (and you should do that), the 547C will probably be ok. The letter usually indicates a revision, and the later letters are usually an improvement. Usually.

The others are probably completely different, but, again, look them up.

I'm not sure about the 550 without looking it up, but the other three are pretty much interchangeable. You can certainly use a BC547C in place of a BC547A, no problem.
