Question:

Differences between male and female cats?

I'm planning on adopting a little kitten by the end of August. I know that it's best to choose the one that you bond the closest with, but I heard that male cats tend to need more attention. The thing is I'll be starting school again in September, so the house will be empty for about 7 hours daily. I don't want the kitten to be too lonely while I'm gone. I can't let it entertain itself outside, as I don't want any harm to come to it. (I learned my mistake when I'd freely allow my kitty Lyra to go outside. Her downfall was that she trusted humans too much.)

So, would it be better if I got a female kitten, who supposedly don't crave as much attention? Does gender really matter, or does it depend more on the cats' individual personalities?

Thanks ^_^

  1. male cats r male

female cats rnt male they're female

    yay!

  2. it doesn't matter if the cat is male or female it depends on the personality of the cat if it is needy or not.

if you do adopt a cat try bonding with it and feel out the personality of the cat so you have a good idea if it will cry when you are not there.

  3. What the difference is between male & females, it is basically nothing except that a male cat can/will have a tendency to spray when they get mad. That doesnt mean that your female would, but she could. Being left alone doesnt seem to bother cats much as they are nocternal (they are awake at night) and will sleep during the day. I have 5 cats and a kitten, they are all different with different personalities, you just need to find one that matches you. I also found out recently although I dont know how true it is that people with allergies are not prone to be bothered by females as much as the male cats. All of my cats are spade and neutered at 6 months, it did not affect their personality or their moods. Be sure that you leave your cat alone for a few hours at a time at first, this will let her or him know that you are coming back. Also when you do return do not forget to make it a priority to say "hello" to your cat as they do crave alot of attention, you might even put aside a 10 minutes of the day to play with your cat mine like the feathers on the elastic and will play for hours if I let them (even my oldest who is about 6 or so years old)! If you have never owned a cat before its a little easier then a dog. If you put you kitten in the litter box before their paws ever touch the floor they will usually use the litter box with out any problems, at least mine always have. Keep your litter box clean, and always have fresh water for them, be sure you know what it entails to take care of one so that you dont leave yourself short of time between studying, working and being at home. slparrott2000@yahoo

  4. I've never known there to be a difference in behaviors between male and female when kittens.

  5. I think you should go with the kitten you bond with most! I currently have both sexes, the female I have had longer, and they live happily together inside the home.  The boy is much more playful while the girl is very prissy and lays around.  Each one seeks attention but only when they want to be bothered, but the boy follows me around EVERYWHERE!!!  I have had them both fixed and I they enjoy each others company because I am gone the majority of the day.  And prior to the addition of the boy, my female cat's behavior was the same....very prissy and lazy!!

  6. It depends more on the cat's individual personalities.

  7. With male cats, there is a possiblity that they will spray when they become mature. This is does not happen with female cats. In my experience, female cats seem to be *more* social, not less; male cats are just as affectionate with people, but I've always noticed that female cats are more likely to seek each other (or you) out to curl up together, purr, and l**k each other. I can often get a strange female cat to let me pet her, but friends' male cats rarely will. Among my cats, my two females sleep on my bed almost every night, whereas the male sleeps in the living room. When I sleep over at a person's house, the same is true; I once had to stay at a friend's house for two weeks, during which time their female cat slept on the bed with me almost every night, but the male slept on the living room couch. But if curling up, purring, and l*****g each other is not high on your priority list, then it shouldn't matter. ;)

  8. just plant some catnip on your backyard and youll be good.

  9. NO....dont get a male....he will spray and he wants out at night...get a female and get her fixed and she will lounge around all day long and love you when you come home at night

  10. the male has a p***s and I think the female has a v****a

  11. you should get a male kitten because i had one and they are so much more effectionate than females  plus they like attention but they dont have to have it all the time and you will have a great friend as well as pet so males are my choice hope this helps hun
