  1. There's loads of different accents depending on which region you're in in France.

The North of France say the word 'pain' (bread) as 'pah'.

In the South, they say 'paing', because of the influence from Spain.

There's a really strange dialect in the very north of France, near Lille, called Chtimi. It's incredibly difficult to understand. For example instead of pronouncing 'chien' with a 'sh' sound at the beginning, they start it was a 'k' sound!

  2. My wife is from south-west France and has the southern accent, which is more "musical" than standard French: e.g the final "e" which is normally often mute is then pronounced!

    e.g : je t'aime

    1) standard French : je t'aim

    2) southern accent: je t'aimE

Also the sound "in" is often pronounced "ing", with a sort of "g" at the end! e.g "je viens" --> je [vienng] !!

    Listen to this! http://french.about.com/library/listenin...

first man = parisian, first woman = southern accent

Here is a famous (dead) French actor and humorist from southern France with his accent  :-) :
