Question:

Different Size Pupils?

I noticed this today after putting over the counter moisurising eye drops in. My right eye, the one with astigma, had a larger pupil.

I check my eyes all the time in the mirror and have never noticed it.

Now, 5 hours later my pupils seem to be normal. I go in the bathroom, close my eyes for 10 seconds, and open my eyes wide and both pupils are the same size and both adjust to the light correctly. The affected eye is a lazy eye and my eyelid covers 10% of the top of my eye.

Was just a tad bit worried. I will voice my concern to my optemetrist in the week. I have been checked about 2 months ago for eye problems, had IOP test done etc.

I do have dry eyes and astigma. I also sit infront of a computer for along time and drink alcohol.

  1. what your describing is Anisocoria. see an optician

  2. It sounds like it was due to the drops you used.  I would not worry unless it continues to happen without using the drops.  When you tell your doctor, be sure to include that it happened after you used the over the counter drops.

  3. Sometimes eye drops can cause your eyes to dilate.  If you just put the drops in your right eye, that could be all that happened.

If not, anisocoria can be caused by many things, some serious and some not serious.  Since they are the same size now, I would just keep an eye on them (hehe).  If they become different in size again, I would head to a doctor (GP that may be open or an urgent care center), because if it is something serious, you want to take care of it as soon as possible.  If they stay the same size, I would just call up your optometrist on Monday and let him or her know what has happened and go from there.

Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious!
