Question:

Different Waxes for snowboards... Which ones are good?

I was reading an article in Transworld magazine on how to wax your board. All you needed was a traveling iron wax and a scraper, so I figured if I did it myself I could save up some extra cash. I bought a brick of wax for $13. For the same price there was also some spry on stuff, and some wax that came in a deodorant bottle. which is the best? are there pros and cons to the different types?

  1. Hot was is always the best.  I use Demon All Temp (white) wax.  The spray on wax is good to use if you skate pipes regularly, so you can keep it waxed before each run, but it wears off quickly.  The rub on was is really meant for touch ups to keep the bottom of the board smooth.  I carry some of this to fix rock or rail scrapes, until it can be properly re-waxed, or p-texed if necessary.

  2. the stickis the best and u have 2 scrape it and then scrape it with a wax comb and dont use the spray on just use the iron

  3. It is great that you are looking at hot-waxing.  The spray-on and rub-on waxes are great as a quick fix but are not good for continual riding.  Any reputable all-temperature hot wax will likely suit you fine.  If you after better performance, you can look into a set of waxes that you can use for differing temperatures.  KUU makes some of the best wax that I have ever used - they are also used by some national race teams.  They were also good enough to provide an excellent tuning guide: http://www.kuu.com/tuningmanual2.pdf
