Ok Im dropping my MTB off tomorrow and I was talking to the guy at the shop. He had recomended a diffrent brand I think it was Surly. They are cheaper than Shamino but he said that it because there less know and that they are just as good if not better due to 1:1 moving parts vs. 2:1 moving parts with shamino. dose any of this make sense? please help. I dont want to put c**p on my bike but im not rich either.. THANKS!!! XOXO

  1. They brand he was referencing is SRAM, SRAM components are very good and are slightly easier to set up and maintain than Shimano parts. As far as cheaper cost than Shimano, part grade level for level SRAM tends to be a few dollars lower but not much, quality of construction there is no real difference. What the guy was referring to in the moving parts is that SRAM uses a 1:1 pull ratio and because of this tends to stay in adjustment longer.

  2. What part or parts are you talking about ?

  3. No, your question does not make sense.  Your question is apples and oranges.

Surly is a bicycle frame manufacturer, not a component manufacturer.  Shimano is a component manufacturer, not a bicycle frame manufacturer. Both are excellent in their separate fields.

At the risk of being redundant, Shimano does not sell bikes and Surly does not sell components.

As the Magic 8 Ball says "answer unclear, ask again later."
