Just a few quick questions about scrubs. Best answer gets 10 points.

Please help if you know the answers!

1. In a hospital, are different types of people required to wear different colors of scrubs? For example, do radiologic technologists have to all wear a certain color, and surgeons all have to wear another color, and so on?

2. How often/how many scrubs must be purchased? Do you have to continuously buy them, or can you just rewash and re-use a few pairs?

Thank you all so much!!!

  1. 1. Depends on the rules of the hospital or office. Some places require scrubs of a certain color/style and some don't.

    2. Scrubs can be washed/laundered, unless they are stained with blood or other body fluids.

  2. it depends on the hospital you are working with. they decide what scrub color will you wear. And you can re use it of course, just wash it. and wear it again. in the hospital where we had our ojt as nursing students, they wear different colors of scrubs, and they look nice (hehehe). They re use it, even our clinical instructors who are nurses wear different colors of scrubs with different designs on it.and they wear it again and again. nothing wrong with that as long as you keep it clean and contamination free.

  3. Some hospitals "color code" their employees, others don't. Scrubs can last a while, but eventually, they'll have something happen, usually a stain that can't be removed. Once upon a time, when scrubs were worn only in special units, they were laundered on-site, and it was considered a no-no to take them home, as wearing them in to work brought in outside microbes (as if that were a real problem!) but now, people who've never worked in a hospital wear them, and pretty well anything goes.

  4. I just bought two pairs and alternate everyday...

  5. 1. This will vary greatly by hospital. Some facilities have uniform policies, others don't.  Some will allow prints, others don't

    2. It depends on quality.  If you wear them every day, and you do laundry once a week, you'll need at least 5 sets.  If you have good quality scrubs (I get mine at http://www.Tafford.com), a set can last a long time with lots of washing.  Poor quality scrubs will fade and rip after a few washings.

  6. buy some and wash and reuse
