I need a site that shows different shades of colours..

Like say there's purple and there's lighter and lighter .. There's names for them?

I'm writing a poem for school about moods and all, s I need colours.

I hope that made sense.. I'm in a rush!

Thanks!

  1. Try this site: http://www.winsornewton.com/products.asp...

  2. Try a thesaurus.  Just look up the names of basic colors and there will be lots of alternate names for those colors.  Windsor Newton will provide you with the names of artists' paint pigments.  I don't think that's what you want and it may not help you if you are not familiar with pigments like cadmium, cobalt and pthalocyanine.  The basic colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.  No, I don't think you're dumb but a lot of people don't know the seven basic colors of the color spectrum.  You may count only six but that is because I left out indigo which is a deep blue (think new dark jeans blue) that lies between blue and violet in the color spectrum.  Violet is also considered to be a blue that is very intense and vibrant like the blue in a flame or electric spark.  It is almost purplish in color.

Just to get you started here are some of my favorite names of colors.

Red: crimson, scarlet, rose, candy apple, garnet, ruby, carmine, claret, cherry, cerise.

Orange: peach, salmon, pumpkin, apricot, sherbert, tangerine, carrot.

Yellow: gold, flax, wheat, honey, banana, butter, maize, corn, topaz.

Green: verdisgris, vermillion, jade, emerald, mint, olive, lime.

Blue:  cyan, turquoise, lapiz, cobalt, sapphire, violet, aqua, powder.

Purple:  maroon, burgundy, plum, fuschia, magenta, grape, puce.

    Good luck!
