Different teams starting on different dates at the final Barcelona test – Formula 1 update
Up to nine of Formula One’s twelve teams had already confirmed to perform on the original scheduled dates of 9th to 12th March for the final pre-season test in Barcelona. The new dates of the final Barcelona test has been re-scheduled from 8th to 11th March.
All the teams are agreed to move four-day test from 8 to 11 March except the three Formula 1 teams Williams, Mercedes GP and Ferrari as the test has been delayed by 24 hours.
The decision to move the testing dates was brought on by the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Bahrain GP was removed from the F1 schedule following the political unrest in the country. Williams chairman Adam Parr stated on the Bahrain cancellation,
“If for whatever conceivable reason that hadn't been the decision, I don't think we would have (gone).”
Williams Formula 1 team has recently unveiled their new 2011 car at a special event at Williams’ UK F1 Conference Centre where the team’s technical director Sam Michael has confirmed this report.
The Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn had already revealed on 25 February that Nico Rosberg will be driving the MGP W02 on 12th March. He added the team’s test will kick off only on 9th March, which is one day later than the earlier announced schedule.
The Sauber team updated their statement that they will be testing on the earlier dates. Other than Sauber the Force India team also confirmed their presence on Wednesday and said, "Teams can alter their testing days by one day, but given the quick turnaround
for freight departing for Australia immediately after the test we felt these days suited us better."
Christian Horner, recently stated, "It will certainly be a challenge to accommodate, but nothing is ever impossible. It's a very busy calendar this year. Already now, at the end of November, we'll have finished 19 races."
Bernie Ecclestone is still finding the best place to fit the Bahrain GP into the race calendar, while 19 races have already been scheduled for the 2011 season. Most observers agree that the re-scheduling of the Bahrain GP will not be feasible for the up-coming
season.
