Question:

Different types of DVDS according to regions?

There is a movie I want (a British one) that Amazon.com says that won't work with DVD players in Region 1 (aka United States and Canada) and will only work with specific DVD players in Region 2. This has to do with some encoding I guess. My question is: Will any Region DVD work with a PS2? Please back up with details of experience or technical knowledge

  1. Region coding (Link 1) is determined by the DVD disk itself, so you need a "multi-region" or "region free" player.

    You have several options:

    1) find a hack (search on the internet with approriate terms  and follow directions) for your DVD player. (See 2nd link)

    2) Buy a region free player

    3) Some players (including most computer DVD drives) allow the region to be changed ... but this is usually limited to (typically) 5 changes, after which the last region is locked. You could check your player's manual to see if yours supports this. If so it would be one option to watch the disk once.

    4) Some computer DVD software remove region coding (e.g. AnyDVD), so you can make a backup copy that plays on your regular player (See Link 3).

    Hope something here helps.
