  1. For very young babies it helps the development to have a lot of body-contact. Carrying baby in a sling close to the body is a good way to ensure that. Talking and singing to baby is also very important.

    Some people recommend the use of sign language, starting when baby is about 6 month. After a few weeks, baby will be able to communicate a bit, even though vocal language is not developed enough, yet.

    Prevent babies and toddlers from watching TV. TV provides pictures and language, but never really interacts with the child. TV teaches the child to mindlessly stare rather than communicate.


  2. Teach sign language beginning at birth.  This helps children put together symbol /object couplets, which makes acquiring spoken language easier Infants learn to manipulate the large muscles of arms hands and fingers much earlier than the tiny muscle involved in speaking, and being able to communicate with their hands makes for infants and toddlers who are less frustrated.   Children who learn sign language often speak earlier than their non signing peers.
