Humoral immune response occurs when circulating antibodies recognize an antigen as foreign.  This will trigger activation of the complement system and cause opsonization.  Cell mediated response occurs when T-cells recognize an antigen as foreign. This causes an increase in the clones of that particular type of T-cell and also causes T-cell migration into that site.  This usually takes more time than humoral response.  This is considered a type IV reaction.  

    The major difference between B-cell antibodies and T-cell receptors is that the antibodies are circulating free in the plasma and can activate complement whereas T-cell receptors are bound to T-cells and don' activate complement.  Instead the activated T-cell secretes chemotactic factors that cause migration of other lymphocytes, macrophages and other immune cells.
