What is the significance of the differing outcomes of Austronesian expansion in Indonesia and New Guinea?

The Austronesian expansion into New Guinea was less successful because the native populations there had already developed a strong culture with agriculture.  They simply incorporated the animals including pigs, and crops of the newcomers.  In Indonesia, the hunter gatherers were less successful in enduring the migration of those with more dominant agriculutre based culture.
