Difficult Co-worker. what to do?

One of our co-workers recently got pregnant. She is in her 2nd month...

Everyone tolerates her but most of the people here, find her annoying. She's cheap always asking not only the other employees but customers to go buy her stuff such as food. She talks a lot, and will not hesistate to talk to someone about someone else's personal life.

This was all BEFORE she got pregnant. Now, along with those things she complains she is sick all the time, does not take nearly as many customers, most of the time shopping online, or having a conversation with one single customer that is completly non-work related. We tested how hard she worked and it took one worker 2 hrs to take as many customers as she had done in 9 hours. She takes extended breaks, and most of the other tellers are pissed that we have to work harder because she doesnt want to work anymore.

We spoke to management twice, who said to concentrate on doing what WE are specifically paid to do which I find true. And that everyone has their faults not just her, to be considerate cause she's pregnant etc. I'm not in the same section as she is anymore, so it doesn't bother me as much as before but I make occasional visits and she never works

I just don't see it fair that she works a LOT less than we do but gets 100% of her salary just as we do. We've all made complaints directly to her but she doesnt take it seriously. We dont want her fired but rather we just want her to work. what to do?

  1. sounds like this is lose lose for you. she obviously isnt taking what you told her to heart and rather just be lazy. the only thing you really can do is get her fired, wait for the district manager to come in and pull him aside and talk to him or since your not by her anymore dont let it bother you as much just forget about it.

  2. i am in the same situation although i am being bullied and currently out with depression isnt there a union you could speak to if your management are not going to do anything then get the union involved

  3. Go to your manager's boss.  Make it clear you do not want to get this girl in any trouble nor want her disciplined, but would like for them to at least bring it to her attention.  Let the boss know you went to your manager and he/she dismissed it as office gossip and did not take yours and your co-workers concerns seriously.

It is understandable that allot of women do get very sick in the early stages of pregnancy, but being pregnant does not make you handicapped.  When I was pregnant just recently, I worked just as hard as always, if not more because I had to train somebody for my position while I was out on Maternity Leave.  I worked right up until the day before I gave birth and came back in 6 weeks to even MORE work! lol!!  (Apparently what I had trained my co-worker to do, was not entirely done....but that's a different story.)

Anyway, I was in a similar situation in my previous job.  We had this co-worker that spent her days playing Solitaire, making personal calls, online shopping and when she actually took a customer she was always rude.  But because she was the owner's pet, nothing was ever done. Hopefully you have the opportunity to talk to somebody that will do something about it.  It's frustrating and makes it harder and harder to come in to work.

    Good luck!
