Flower, 44, spent almost 60% of his time away from his young family since taking charge almost five years ago and the schedule over the next eight years further suggested that the prospect of a break was hardly forthcoming.

While the team has fulfilled many of their ambitions during his time, notably in the Test arena, it is the 50-over trophy that has eluded the team since the competition began in 1975.
