Difficult to balance work-family life – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362 – Cricket News Update
Andy Flower said that his decision to lighten his workload was necessary as it had become impossible to balance work-family life given the amount of cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 played during his tenure as Head Coach.
Flower, 44, spent almost 60% of his time away from his young family since taking charge almost five years ago and the schedule over the next eight years further suggested that the prospect of a break was hardly forthcoming.
Keeping this in mind, ECB made a major exception by allowing Flower to carry on his Test duties alongside overseeing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Fraser-Giles-c46314 in the limited-overs arena.  That stance will help Flower spend valuable time with his three young children, and permit ECB to find an eventual successor to the Zimbabwean when he eventually decides to part ways.
"With young families it is very hard to get that work-life balance right," Flower said. "If you were single or had a grown up family then I think it would be more possible to do all three forms of the game.
"We have talked about what the most effective coaching structure for our national side is and we're still not sure. But we believe that this might be a more efficient use of our resources."
While the team has fulfilled many of their ambitions during his time, notably in the Test arena, it is the 50-over trophy that has eluded the team since the competition began in 1975. England’s only major http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 trophy came in the T20 format, in 2010, but they have failed to reproduce the goods in the subsequent mega-events in 2011 and more recently in 2012.
Flower admitted that stepping away from the shorter version is disappointing but found it the only way to fulfill his family commitments. He wished Giles, who is a former Poms spinner, all the best.
"There is a bit of unfinished business. But I hope to see Ashley Giles and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 hoisting a trophy above their heads at some stage. It is a little sad to be stepping away to be honest. But I will certainly gain in other areas of my life."
