  1. Its ZX-6R and ZX-6RR

The ZX-6RR is 599cc and it has shorter, tighter gearing, because of the track regulations for competition.

THe ZX-6R is known as the 636, which is, you guessed it, 636cc , which is faster. These are more popular.

  2. From 2003 to 2006, kawasaki upped their 600cc sportbike to 636cc. Even though it was a bit different, it kept the model name ZX-6R.

While the 636cc version was out, kawasaki came out with a strict 600cc version people who are interested in racing, because often times races put strict limitations on bikes. They just added another 'R' to the name (for race version) and this was the ZX-6RR. Honestly, you don't see very many of these just riding around on the street.

From 2007 and on, they brought the ZX-6R back to a regular 600cc bike, so there was no need for the RR version.

So if someone says they have a ZX-6R, unless you know the exact year, you dont know if its a 600 or 636. So people just kind of mess the names up a bit when casually referring to the bikes just to notate which one they're talking about: the 600 or the 636.

636cc version = 125 horsepower at the rear wheel.

600cc version = 105 horsepower at the rear wheel.
