Digby Ioane and Anthony Faingaa back for Queensland Reds in semi-final: Super Rugby news
The Queensland Reds are delighted with the timely recovery of three veteran players for their upcoming Super Rugby semi-final clash against the Blues. The Reds are taking on the New Zealander derby, Blues in the first semi-final of the current Super Rugby
season on Saturday, July 1, in Brisbane. The Reds coach Ewen McKenzie told the media today on June 30, that Digby Ioane and Anthony Faingaa have recovered from injuries and will participate in the super clash.
Ewen McKenzie, the coach of Reds revealed the team for the upcoming contest and made four changes from their previous match. McKenzie told the media that three key players, including Ioane, Faingaa and Greg Holmes have made their come back into the side
from various injuries and they will be the part of Reds playing 15.
Making the announcement for his team, McKenzie appreciated the results the whole squad had produced despite numerous injuries. He said that, “We've been extremely impressed with the way our squad has handled the absence of some of our regulars, but you need
strike power and experience to win big games and we have that returning in spades on Saturday night.”
Queensland sustained huge injury losses in the ongoing Super Rugby season and they still managed to end up the round matches as the number one team.
McKenzie welcomed the injured players back in his side and hoped that their inclusion would boost the confidence of rest of the team. He also revealed that Greg Holmes is returning to the team after a long absence. Mckenzie praised Holmes and said that,
“He's played a lot of games for the Reds over the years and I think the occasion isn't going to worry him. He's played very well for us. He's been putting a lot of pressure on for playing time and we've been giving him that.”
The Reds will go against the Blues on July 1, with the following team:
Queensland: Jono Lance, Rod Davies, Anthony Faingaa, Ben Tapuai, Digby Ioane, Quade Cooper, Will Genia; Radike Samo, Beau Robinson, Scott Higginbotham, James Horwill (capt), Rob Simmons, Greg Holmes, Saia Faingaa, Ben Daley.
Reserves: James Hanson, Guy Shepherdson, Adam Wallace-Harrison, Jake Schatz, Liam Gill, Ian Prior, Will Chambers.
