Digicel Jamaica sponsors Jamaican Special Olympics team
The financially troubled Special Olympics team of Jamaica was given funds by Digicel Jamaica in order to make possible their journey to Athens for the Special Olympic World Games 2011.
Digicel Jamaica is a local company that has helped the team consisting of special athletes by providing them with $2.5 million. The team needed the funds mainly for covering their travel as well as accommodation expenses during the time that it would be
making its stay in Athens.
Paula Pinnock-Macleod, who is the sponsorship manager for Digicel Jamaica, made the following comments about the Special Olympics World Games that will be held shortly: "Digicel has been proud sponsors of the Special Olympic team for 10 years - as long as
the company has been in operation. This is a relationship that is definitely dear to our hearts. We are extremely proud of the team's achievements to date and, as such, it was just a natural fit for us to support their journey to Athens."
The Jamaican Special Olympics team has been preparing long and hard for the event and it would have been a huge disappointment to them if they were unable to take part in the event based on financial constraints.
The executive director of the Special Olympic Association, Lorna Bell, was grateful to Digicel Jamaica for making the contributions that they did and acknowledged the fact that the money will be a great help to the team.
The company has been associated with the Special Olympics team of Jamaica for 11 years and it acts as the telecommunications sponsor of the team. Digicel Jamaica has been actively involved in all efforts that were aimed to generate funds for the team’s visit
to Athens this summer. Digicel Jamaica has provided its support by sponsoring the team’s uniform as well as the Law Enforcement Torch Run that took place in the beginning of last month. Not only that, Digicel Jamaica has also furnished its outlets with magazines
of the Special Olympic team. It has also provided the special athletes with cellphones that will enable them to communicate easily with friends and family from Athens.
