Digital Camera Optical Sensor question?

I heard that if a digital camera has a bigger optical sensor, the image quality will be better than a camera with a smaller optical sensor.

example:

8.0 megapixels

Optical Sensor - 1/2.5" CCD

8.0 megapixels

Optical Sensor - 1/1.7" CCD

The one with the bigger optical sensor will have more focal resolution?

  1. well i kno the more megapixels the better but im sure the bigger optical sensor will be good because if it was bad why would they make cameras with bigger than they neeed.... especialy if it cost more it has 2 be doing a better job lol im not sure tho thas jus wat seems logical

  2. Yes, that is correct.  That's another reason the DSLR cameras take better pictures than the digitals.  They just plainly have bigger CCD's in them and that allows for more information to be gathered and processed.
