Question:

Digital Camera for Night Pictures?

I work in the paranormal field, and a big part of it is taking pictures in low light to pitch dark conditions. The camera I have isn't working as well as I would like it to. Any recommendations for a camera that will take excellent quality night pictures? My price range is about $200

  2. sorry to tell u. but ure gonna have to buy an slr camera. ( around $550 to $1000)

  3. All the cameras in your price range are P&S cameras and thus have very few if any manual controls (like focus, aperture or shutter speed).

My guess would be that since you already have a lot of experience as a paranormal investigator, you know what you need to do the get the exposures you need under the lighting conditions you work.

For $200, you can buy a good used Nikon or Canon camera with standard zoom lens on craigslist.  One of these will at least give you the ability to place a camera on a tripod with a camera pre-focused on the area of interest and then open the lens using a remote shutter release and hold it open until you have captured the image(s) you need.

  4. Take a look at the Sony point and shoots. They have a low light setting that works almost like infrared photography.

The DSC-W120 is in your price range and has a very high iso range (3200).
