Question:

Digital Camera (point and shoot) advice?

I am looking at buying my boyfriend a new point and shoot digital camera for his birthday in a few weeks. I own an older sony cybershoot (about four years old now) and I love it. I have actually bought three or four newer "better" cameras and I hate them. I was hoping for recommendations based on this information:

Around 8 megapixals

Fast response time (I hate that with new camera's you stand there and wait for them to take the picture for ten minutes, then it finally does and you can't take another one until it processes which is another ten minutes--my sony doesn't do that, but I have used a Kodak that does and an Olympus that does)

Affordable, he isn't into photography, he wants to take pictures of our hiking trips and his friends when they do stupid things and cars and such, so I am not looking for something perfect

Easy to use

Fits well for a man--he has large hands and is over 6 foot and when he uses our friends' cameras his hands always hti the little buttons on the sides and stuff.

Thanks for helping me!

  1. Canon A-590IS, best under $200 camera IMHO. Buy 4 rechargeable AA's a charger and a 1 GB SD card and he will be ready.

  2. If he were into photography I would recommend a Nikon D40.  Since he is not, I will recommend one of Nikon's Coolpix series cameras, which range in size from really small to pretty good sized.

  3. shoot lots  with all the settngs, you will figure it out, i did

  4. what are you wanting to spend. i researched cameras for months before i bought my nikon d40, i absolutely love it. i can take pictures of my son diving off the diving board and i didnt miss a beat. looked like a movie. nikon isnt the only one canon has these cameras, it is not a film camera as some have said the one i have is digital. i went into best buy and played with a couple cameras before deciding what to  buy. im glad i did!!  do some research on shutter lag time, all camera companies say they have little lag time, go into a store where you can play around with them to see what you like
