Vita games purchased over the PlayStation Network’s PlayStation Store will cost consumers lesser than purchasing physical copies of the same game.
Sony seems to be determined to get their second generation of handheld portable gaming devices off to a solid start in the United States and other regions. The PlayStation Vita has been struggling to move units off shelves in Japan, with each week’s sales figures lower than the previous weeks.
In fact, the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable are all outselling the Vita at the moment.
Sony do not seem too worried as they expect the sales to pick up once more and more people become familiar with the technology and once there is more content available apart from the launch day titles.
The consumer electronics giant have already announced a bundle for the Vita, which comes with a free memory card, a digital download version of the game Little Deviants among other things.
Sony’s next move to entice consumers into buying their new product comes in the form of offering discounts for anyone who will purchase their games online via the PlayStation Store.
One of Sony’s many representatives stated, “I can confirm that there will be a discount on the downloadable PS Vita titles from PSN (PlayStation Network). Exact details have not yet been revealed, but be on the lookout for an announcement in the very near future.”
The announcement was only made the US region for the time being, with nothing offered or confirmed as to whether the same deal would apply to other territories and regions such as the United Kingdom.
However, with the release of the Vita drawing ever closer one can expect a number of announcements and promotions to be announced for Europe and other regions as well.
As for whether or not the Vita will do any better in the United States and Europe than it did in Japan is a question that everyone seems to have a differing opinion on and one will have to wait and see whether the Vita can live up to its hype or not.
