  1. I personally prefer Nikon (strictly for DSLRs), but I would recommend going to a camera store and trying both out.

The D40 is almost as good as the D60 though, and I would recommend that if you get a Nikon, put the money you save by getting the D40 towards getting extra lenses or maybe a Nikon Speedlight like the SB-400.

The Nikon D40 is a great camera, try it out at a store, and see if you like it. It is also the least expensive of the cameras you named, but about the same in what it offers.

Last of all, try http://cnet.com - they have great reviews on all the cameras you named. http://dpreview.com is another great site for that. Check them both out!

Any other questions, feel free to send me a message.

    zlh.

  2. Nikon d40 right now is one of the best lower priced selling cameras on the market. Canon as well with the rebel xti. If you want more variety go with canon  cuz they have so many different lenses to go with their cameras. you wont have a problem searching for the right lens. I Have a sony a100, But go with canon all the way.

  3. Canon happens to be the leading and best camera manufactures. You can never go wrong when dealing with Canon.

Well for that price, I'd suggest a Canon EOS Rebel XT
