Digital Slr question?

Question

what would you recommend to a first time SLR user who is very familar with Cannon? I can really spend about $600 on a camera, and I was wondering which Cannon model is best in that price range, or should I switch to a different brand for that same price range?

You could purchase either the Canon Rebel XT or XTi in that price range, depending on whether or not you want a kit lens, extra goodies, etc. The XT is definitely in your 600 dollar range, and the XTi might be, depending on where you look.

You could also buy the XSi if you were willing to spend a little extra, but you would probably only get the body only for that price range (which may or may not be a problem if you already have Canon lenses...)

Personally, I think Canons are a great make! Good luck!

Nikon makes the "other" excellent entry level DSLR ... the D40 with 18-55 mm lens for under $470 on Amazon.

Before you buy, go into you local camera store and hold both the Nikon D40 and Canon XTi (or XSi) in your hands and see which you like the best.  It is really the only way to know which camera is best for YOU.

Canon are as good as any, better in my opinion, especially as you already know the system (if you used EOS cameras before you'll have no problem, if you used the older A series or F series then you would need to relearn any system)

There are some good buys to be had with the Xti just now.
