Hi, you guys. With the new Digital Switchover coming to my area (Meridian) in 2012, I just wanted to ask; Will I still be able to play DVDs from America (NTSC) on my TV?

Thanks a whole heap, Have a good day!

  1. ur dvd player will still be the same as it is now it wont affect it

  2. No need to fear. The Switchover won't affect any devices except your TV, and only then if you use an antenna. If you have cable or satellite, you don't need to worry at all.

However, to get back to your original question, the broadcast format won't change with the switchover, however, if you get TV for free through an antenna, you will need to buy a digital television adapter. I would recommend one with analog pass-through, so you can still receive low-power transmissions from stations which have not switched to digital, such as local stations.

  3. Yeah, digital switchover won't affect DVD players.

  4. your DVD will be fyn. its just that digital means theres more space for more television channels. whereas analogue allows only a few across. so everyone should be prepared for it. your DVD player is a seperate device. you should only be worried about blu-ray takin over DVD.

and yh, ur DVD will still be on PAL format

  5. The digital switchover will only involve broadcast signals received by an antenna.  DVD players are not affected.  If the PAL format is used in your area it will not change to NTSC.

  6. If you can do it now you can do it after the switchover. DVD players are unaffected.

  7. A DVD is a separate device, its only your TV that will be affected.
