Will Dish Network users have to buy those boxes in order for your tv to work?? or is that only for cable users??

  1. Only people who get their TV over the air with an antenna and have an analog TV need to buy a converter box.

    The cheap converter boxes that the government subsidizes only work with over the air signals.

    Satellite TV signals are already digital, there is a converter built into the satellite receiver that converts them into something your TV can understand..

    Some satellite customers also get their local channels over the air. If this is the case, they either need a converter box or a satellite receiver with a digital (ATSC) tuner built in to keep receiving local TV after the analog broadcasts are shut down.
