Question:

Digital TV Generation?

I was just wondering, when they discontinue analog TV in 2009 and in Canada's case 2011 will this affect people that have Free To Air (FTA) systems?

Or do FTA's already have a digital converter built-in.

  1. The analog TV shutdowns in 2009 & 2011 are only for over the air TV broadcasts and do not effect satellite TV.

    Newer FTA satellite receivers (not the old C-band ones) convert digital satellite signals to analog. The same is true of Direct TV & Dish receivers.

    Most satellite TV signals have been digital for quite a while. Dish and Direct TV have always been digital.

    Where do these people come from?

    Take a look at the specs for a FTA receiver like the cheap one linked to below.

    Input = MPEG-2/DVB

    DVB = "Digital Video Broadcast"

    MPEG-2 = Compressed digital video

    Output = composite, S-video

    Composite & S-video are analog only

  2. no they don,t
